Get This Party Started
Monday and Tuesday again consisted of doing states. I was finishing up the updated word counts on Monday. On Tuesday Matt had placed a new folder in the Intern folder on the server and it had the "Passing Through" capsules on states and he just asked me to finish up what I could on those.
I didn't get as far as I would have liked because my mind was incredibly distracted that day for some reason. I just couldn't get myself to stay focused or awake no matter how hard I tried. I desperately wanted to go get an energy drink but didn't want to leave the office. I suppose I was probably too nervous about it. I'm sure nobody would have cared. It's difficult to gauge what the expectations are because I see other people coming and going and taking breaks as they please but I'm different. I'm only there part of the day and I'm just the intern. And I want to make sure Matt knows that I take the position seriously and that I'm grateful for it.
Regardless, I worked on the "Passing Through" capsules and had just over half done by the time I had to leave.
On Thursday I got started on my article. (Here is where I have to let out a little, "Yay!") Matt gave me the assignment, which is to write the Southern feature article on Berkeley County, South Carolina. He wanted me to do research to get a feel for what the area had to offer and where I could go with the story.
This is one of my weaknesses. Coming up with story ideas. Terrible, right? I still lack the confidence I need to strongly say, "This is what I think would be a good idea." Instead I usually kind of mumble out my idea and then finish with, "But I don't know really. That's just what I thought..."
My entire day was spent looking at Berekely County's website and related websites on attractions and things to see and do and eat there. Matt said it could be as simple as just a general outline of what the County has to offer or it could go deeper than that.
I have an idea but I haven't really developed it at all. So over the weekend my assignment is to write a short paragraph outlining what I see the angle of the article being. Tomorrow I'm going to hammer that out provided I have the angle down by then. Wish me luck!
