More Writing & More Gratefulness

Another eventful week. I was once again given more responsibility and I think I'm glad! Serendipity also publishes a yearly travel resource guide for Circle Michigan. Every year they fill the guide with ads and a few features. The first feature is a piece on Michigan as a whole. Then the next five features each focus on a different region of the state. (Upper Peninsula, Northeast, Northwest, etc.) Well... I have been given the task of writing all of the features for the 2009 edition. Yikes! But, I'm very excited about it. I'm taking it as a sign that Matt has faith in my work.

Validation is again a sweet, sweet thing. Now it's up to me to live up to people's expectations.

That was definitely the best thing to happen this week. I'm so incredibly relieved to have had this chance to find out that I really can do this. I could do this for a living and do well. What a relief!

Monday and Wednesday basically consisted of me studying the 2008 issue of Circle Michigan and seeing who the members are and which ones were focused on this year so I can switch it up a bit for next year. Then I started writing one of the features and Thursday was more writing of that feature. I finished it and then started on the next one.

I can see that the writing of these 6 features isn't going to be the most riveting thing of my life but I honestly don't really care. I've been waiting basically my entire life for the opportunity to have completely unbiased professionals giving me this kind of experience because they think I'll do well with it. It has been so rewarding.

Next week Matt won't be in the office and neither will three other employees... so I feel like next week will be a personal challenge for me to really get things done. I tend to lose focus, especially in my first hour being there when I'm trying desperately to stay awake. I won't even be tired. I'll come in bright-eyed and bushy-tailed until I sit down and look at that screen. It must be in my head.

My goal next week is to have at least four out of the six Circle Michigan features finished by Thursday when I leave. It might be a little rough but I think I can do it.
