Procrastination Station
I was unfortunately not feeling very well Monday morning so I didn't go in to intern. I would have been practically useless with the raging headache and nausea so I took that day to sleep in. Wednesday I was back and both of my remaining days this week were spent working on the Circle Michigan resource guide for 2009.
Matt was gone all week, as I said before, as were three other employees so the office was pretty quiet. I had a fun time trying to get my procrastination tendencies under control. I will know that something is due to be completed soon but rather than take the time I have to finish it, I get distracted and do other things. I'm going to blame it on my relaxed look on school. I've always told myself that I wasn't going to kill myself with stress over tests and papers and things. I obviously would get them done and do them to the best of my ability, but my stress level is almost always abnormally low.
It's not that I don't appreciate my education or have a good work ethic, because I do. But that more relaxed view tends to make me think, "It can wait... I'll just do it later... I still have time." Until suddenly, the thing I've been putting off is due the next day and then I have to force myself to sit down and do it. And it rarely takes very much time! The logic is seriously misconstrued.
Well, having this internship is definitely teaching me that I need to have a rhythm and a productive work style. I've begun telling myself, "Yes, I have time, but why not get it done early? No need to stress, but I know I'll feel better once it's finished." And usually once I get into the work time just flies by and suddenly... I'm done!
Next week is my final week interning! I'm honestly kind of bummed. Hopefully I do finish everything before next Thursday! I just have a couple of articles to write and I have to finish my feature article.
