Writing, writing, editing.

Last week was pretty eventful. Matt gave me some time on Monday to work on my feature article, then gave me a new assignment. There was a feature article for the upcoming issue that needed some reorganizing. It was written in sections according to region and they had decided to rearrange it in sections according to whether it related to performance groups or education groups. So my job was to rearrange the sections and edit where necessary. It was pretty simple after I figured out how to make the sections flow smoothly together.

The next day I did more work on my article. I've basically been researching, trying to find attractions that I could work with for the article. I have the rough draft going pretty well still.

Thursday Matt had a list of things for me to work on at the beginning of my day. I worked on editing some of the short write-ups of vendors and tour operators for one of the publications. Then I worked on editing tour operator lists for another publication. This consisted of taking information given to us by the tour operators and putting it together in one document to be featured in the magazine. Each operator sent us a letter from their president/founder as well as contact information and a brief company description.

More editing was done to yet more lists of associates and activities for another magazine published by Serendipity. This was really simple, but took some time because the list was long. Mostly I just removed weird formatting with some websites.

Last on my list was writing a 700 word article for their new magazine. The magazine focuses on Broadway travel experiences in New York City. The short article I was given to write was supposed to give readers ideas on what to do during the day in New York City since they obviously can't go to Broadway shows all day long every day!

I'm so glad that I've been able to get so much experience writing and editing at this internship. I was kind of concerned that I'd get stuck doing mostly grunt work around the office but that hasn't been the case at all!
